No boys lacrosse team has ever won the Morris County Tournament title four years in a row — until now.

Delbarton used tenacious defense, timely scoring and the overall solid face off work of MVP Troy Higgins to earn an 8-6 victory over Mountain Lakes in the MCT final held at FDU-Madison on Tuesday night.

It was the 15th MCT title overall for the top-seeded Green Wave which had also captured titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Rory Madigan’s low diving show with 2:43 left in regulation broke a 6-6 tie. Less than a minute later, Keeghan Khan connected off a feed from Michael Rutter to add an insurance goal.

Rutter led the Green Wave scorers with two goals.

Chet Morgis scored twice to pace second-seeded Mountain Lakes.

The Green Wave built leads of 4-1, 5-2 and 6-3 before Mountain Lakes mounted a come back in the second half. Brendan Monteleone connected off a Trevor Benedetto feed with five seconds left in the third quarter to make it 6-4 and give the Lakers hope.

Morgis put the Lakers fans in a frenzy when his lefty shot hit the left side of the net with 5:52 left to cut the deficit to one-goal.

Mountain Lakes won the next face-off on a ground ball by James Schicke and took a time out. A shot by Chris Boyhan seemed to bouncn off goalie Chris Crowley’s stick. However, Boyhan put in the rebound with 4:54 left to make it a 6-all tie.

However, Troy Higgins earned the next face-off on a procedure call and the Green Wave scored the final two goals to be the first team in MCT history to win four in a row.
