Morristown wins section; Chatham, Mt. Lakes fall

Senior center Meghan Siverson had seven goals and Casey O’Brien added five to lift Morristown to a 15-11 victory over Hopewell Valley to claim the North Group III title.

It was the first sectional championship in the history of the Colonials program.

Annika Begley, Maddy Heher and Allie Ferrara also scored goals for Morristown. The Colonials withstood a 60-minute rain delay. They led 12-6 when play was stopped with 17 minutes left in regulation and then overcame a late Hopewell Valley run to secure the title.

Goalkeeper Amelia Drake added 11 saves to keep the Colonials in front. Morristown, the last girls team alive in Morris County, is 17-7. They face perennial state champion Moorestown in the Group III final on Saturday.

Group II

Summit 13, Chatham 8

The Hilltoppers took a 6-3 halftime lead and pulled away in the second half of the contest in Summit.

Bridget Ballard had four goals and one assist and Maggie O’Neill scored twice for the Cougars. The contest had two rain delays but neither helped Chatham advance. The Cougars finished their season at 14-7.

Group I

Oak Knoll 18, Mountain Lakes 3

Oak Knoll led 7-3 at the half and shut the Lakers down most of the second half. Sarah Bedard, Charlie Orner and Rachel Treweeke each had goals for Mountain Lakes.

The Lakers finished the season 12-10.
