Mendham, Mountain Lakes earn Sectional titles

Mendham and Mountain Lakes captured Group titles on Wednesday. Mendham captured the North III championship while Mountain Lakes are once again queens of North I.

Mendham 15, Morristown 1

The Minutemen put in a dominating performance to capture their fourth consecutive North III title.

Christine Graziano scored four goals including her 100th goal in the Minutemen romp. Christine Long and Becky Gohsler fired hat tricks and Carlye Maita had two goals and two assists for Mendham (13-6).

Mendham scored 15 consecutive goals with the help of seven different scorers. The Minutemen led 10-0 at the half. Both offense and defense were at their best. Times when Morristown got to the cage with a shot attempt, the Colonials were stopped by Mendham keeper Giuliana Durso with seven saves.

Allie Ferrara scored the lone goal for the Colonials. It was the first time Morristown had advanced to the title game. They finish a breakout season with a 15-7 record.

Mountain Lakes 15, Glen Ridge 13

Jackie Perry and Grainger Rosati scored five goals apiece to fuel the Lakers to the North Group I title.

Rachel Treweeke fired a hat trick, Victoria Kalamaras had two goals and two assists and Meredith Newfrock contributed three assists for the Lakers.

Mountain Lakes led 11-8 at halftime and kept control for most of the second half on the Lakers home turf. Goalkeeper Julie Krupnick stopped eight shots to lift the Morris County champs. Mountain Lakes is 22-1 on the season. Tess Howland scored five times for Glen Ridge.
