Mountain Lakes wins North I title; Mo-Beard, Delbarton triumph

Senior attackman Christian Cuccinello fired a hat trick and Brad Smith had three goals and one assist to lift Mountain Lakes to a 13-4 victory over Glen Ridge in the North 1 final  in state tournament boys lacrosse action on Saturday.

Eleven Lakers connected in all to lift Mountain Lakes to a sectional title. Chris Sammarro and Ryan Frawley added a goal and two assists each. Mountain Lakes took control early and led 8-0 at the half. Goalies Paul Kimmelman, Kevin Beimfohr and Joey Goodwin stopped 15 of 19 shots for the Lakers. Mountain Lakes plays Johnson, a 10-9 winner over Rumson, for the Group I title.

North Group III

Ridgewood 10, Morristown 4 

The seventh-seeded Colonials finished a brilliant state tournament run with wins over West Morris and Randolph. Morristown falls to 11-10 on the season. Ridgewood scored five consecutive third-quarter goals to turn a 3-2 halftime score into an 8-2 advantage going into the final period.

Non-Public A

Delbarton 9, Seton Hall Prep 4

J. J. McBride and Emmet Cordrey had two goals and one assist and the Green Wave earned a measure of payback against the team that knocked them out of the state tournament last year. T. J. Comizio had three assists. Delbarton also enjoyed goals by Jack Crowley, Jordan Dowiak, Connor Kirst, Conor Mackie and Will McCarthy. The Green Wave took control in the second half by pulling away with five consecutive goals. Delbarton faces Bergen Catholic, a 9-7 winner over St. Augustine Prep, in the Non-Public A Final.

Non Public B

Morristown-Beard 8, Pingry 7

The Crimson led 5-3 at the half and repelled a late Big Blue threat to earn a semifinal round triumph.

Thomas Rago had three goals and one assist and Teddy Hatfield scored twice for Morristown-Beard. John McDonald had one goal and three assists and Trevor Baptiste had one goal, two assists and 26 ground balls. Morristown-Beard plays Immaculata, a 15-5 winner over Bishop Eustace,  in the Non Public B final.
