Morristown, Mendham, Mt. Lakes girls roll in states


Jackie Perry had six goals and three assists to lift Mountain Lakes to a 17-6 victory over Villa Walsh in North 1 sectional semifinal action on Thursday. Victoria Kalamaras had two goals and three assists. She notched her 100th assist on a pass to her twin sister Nicole. Nicole Kalamaras scored twice for the Lakers. Rachel Treweeke had a hat trick, Meredith Newfrock had two goals and two assists and Grainger Rosati also scored twice for Mountain Lakes. The Lakers face Glen Ridge in the sectional final. The Ridgers defeated Kent Place, 17-16. Christina Pallitto and Taylor Medd had two goals each for Villa Walsh.

Group III

Morristown 12, Sparta 11

Allie Ferrara scored the game-winner with 1:06 remaining in regulation to lift the Colonials to a come-from-behind victory in sectional semifinal action. Morristown led 7-5 at the half and overcame a second-half deficit to advance to the first sectional final in the history of the girls lacrosse program. Allie Ferrara had four goals and three assists, Meghan Siverson fired a hat trick and Casey O’Brien had two goals and one assist for Morristown.

The Colonials trailed 8-7 with 13 minutes left but rallied with goals by Ferrara, O’Brien and Siverson to take an 11-9 edge. After that the game was stopped because of a lightning delay. After the stoppage Sparta rallied with a pair of goals to tie the game. Ferrara’s late score and an O’Brien face-off win secured the triumph.

Mendham 13, Northern Highlands 3

Carlye Maita had two goals and three assists to spark the Minutemen. Becky Gohsler and Christine Graziano both notched hat tricks and Carrie Speicher and Christine Long scored two goals apiece for Mendham. The Minutemen took a 6-1 lead at the half and extended it during second-half action. Mendham plays Morristown in next week’s sectional final.

Group II

Summit 16, Chatham 8

Maggie O’Neill scored four goals and Morgan Sullivan and Beth Kuyk added two goals apiece for the Cougars. The Hilltoppers led 8-4 at the half. Chatham finishes its season at 11-9. Summit plays Rumson in the sectional final.
