Madison, Chatham girls earn state tournament wins

Freshman Catherine Crowley scored four goals and had a marvelous day on the circle in Madison’s 16-3 win over St. John Vianney in North II girls lacrosse state tournament action on Wednesday.

Crowley won every first half draw and spurred Madison to a 12-0 halftime advantage.

Michelle Montagna and Laney Rutland fired hat tricks, Rachel Azzolini and Molly Fishter had a pair of goals each and Ari Goret added a goal and two assists for the Dodgers. Madison faces neighboring rival Chatham in the quarterfinal round.

Chatham 17, Cranford 4

Maddy Bowles had five goals and two assists to lift the Cougars in a home state game.

Alex Frenzel and Morgan Sullivan notched hat tricks and Natalie Washuta added two goals and two assists for the Cougars. Chatham will play Madison in the next round.

Regular season

West Milford 16, Park Regional 7

Melissa Wamp scored four goals and Michaela Tricola attend a hat trick for Park. West Milford led 8-4 at the half.

Morris Hills 11, Lenape Valley 7

The Scarlet Knights led 7-2 at the half.

Boys

Newark Academy 14, Boonton 6

Drew Recchia scored two goals and one assist for the Bombers. He also earned his 100th career varsity point during the contest.
