Mountain Lakes earns top seed in girls MCT

MONTVILLE — Defending champion Mountain Lakes earned the top seed and Mendham, Chatham and West Morris rounded out the top four seeded teams during the Girls Lacrosse Morris County Tournament seeding meeting held on Thursday at Montville High School.

The 20-team tournament commences on May 1. The preliminaries, opening round and quarterfinals are held at the site of the higher seeded team. The semifinals will be played at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on May 8 at Montville High School. The title game is scheduled for May 10 at 6 p.m. at Montville High School.

Mountain Lakes (12-1), Mendham (7-3) and Chatham (5-7) were all unanimous selections. West Morris (1-8) on the season was given the high seed due to its strength of scheduled and an overtime victory against Chatham. Morristown (10-1), Villa Walsh (8-4), Madison (6-4) and Montville 9-2 round out the top eight. Although it is the only unbeaten team in the tournament, Jefferson (9-0) was awarded the 12th-seed largely due to strength of schedule.

Last year Mountain Lakes defeated Mendham 6-4 in the title game.

Preliminary round games must be played on or by May 1 at the site of the higher seeded team. Opening round games are played on or by May 3 and quarterfinals by May 6, also at the higher seed. The semifinals are scheduled to be played on May 8 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Montville High.

Winner of No. 17 Mount Olive (8-1) at No. 16 Randolph (3-9) plays at No. 1 Mountain Lakes (12-1).

No. 9 Morristown-Beard (6-3) plays at No. 8 Montville (9-2).

No. 12 Jefferson (9-0) plays at No. 5 Morristown (10-1).

Winner of No. 20 Park Regional (0-5) at No. 13 Morris Catholic (7-4) plays at No. 4 West Morris (1-8).

Lower bracket

Winner of No. 19 Morris Hills (1-6) at No. 14 Pequannock (5-7) plays at No. 3 Chatham (5-7).

No. 11 Kinnelon (5-5) plays at No. 6 Villa Walsh (8-4).

No. 10 Morris Knolls (2-8) plays at No. 7 Madison (6-4)

Winner of No. 18 Boonton (4-6) at No. 15 Roxbury (3-8) plays at No. 2 Mendham (7-3).
