Chatham, Mendham girls advance in state play

Maggie O’Neill scored four goals and Chatham held on to defeat West Essex 9-7 in girls lacrosse state tournament North Group II semifinal action on Friday.

Kelcie Ehler scored two goals and Lauren Maiorano, Kennedy Krauss and Kristen Maiorano each tallied for the Cougars. Chatham held a 6-0 advantage early in the first half and took a 7-4 lead into halftime. Stephanie D’Ascoli fired a hat trick for the Knights (18-5). The defending champion Cougars (10-8) will face Summit, a 15-5 victor over Caldwell, in the sectional final on May 29.

Mendham 17, Indian Hills 5

Becky Gohsler had six goals and two assists to pace the Minutemen in North Group III action. Gia Padavano had four goals and two assists and Christine Graziano scored three times. Senior goalkeeper Abby Witczak stopped nine shots for Mendham (14-5). The Minutemen took control early and led 9-2 at the half. Mendham faces Princeton in the sectional final on May 29. Nicole Kopyta had a pair of goals for Indian Hills (19-2).

Kinnelon vs. Mountain Lakes

The North Group I sectional semifinal between Kinnelon and Mountain Lakes has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday morning in Mountain Lakes.
