Pequannock, Mo-Town girls post historic firsts; Montville wins in 2 OT


Abby Haimson connected with 2:20 left in double overtime to lift Montville to an 11-10 victory over Northern Highlands in opening round Group III state tournament action on Thursday. Haimson finished with five goals and four assists including her 200th goal. Nicole Dvoretsky scored twice including a score with 2:03 left in regulation to tie the game at 9-9 and send it to overtime. Carly DeNigris tied the game at 10-10 with nine seconds left in the first overtime. Ashley Bello added two goals for the Mustangs which rallied from an 8-5 halftime deficit.

Pequannock 13, Morris Catholic 10

This is the Golden Panthers first state tournament home game and first tournament victory. Ashley Tachon had four goals and two assists. Jess Rigoglioso, Christine Rich and Arden Kasseleh had two goals apiece for Pequannock (9-9) in the North I triumph. Tina Nassany scored four goals and Sarah Shirkey and Taylor Shannahan scored two goals apiece for the Crusaders (9-9).

Morristown 14, Vernon 9

The Colonials first state tournament game on the Morristown High turf resulted in a triumph. Casey O’Brien had five goals and two assists, Allie Ferrara had three goals and four assists and Meghan Siverson added a hat trick for Morristown.

Mountain Lakes 19, Saddle River Day 7

Hannah Crook, Charley Orner, Megan Ryan, Allie LaBeau and Meredith Newfrock scored two goal each for the Lakers in Group I action. Mountain Lakes took control early and led 16-3 at the half. The top-seeded Lakers improve to 16-1 on the season.

Mendham 17, Old Tappan 2

Becky Gohsler and Gia Padavano scored four goals apiece in the North III contest.

West Morris 20, Roxbury 10

Paige Burton and Sydney Sapir scored four goals apiece to lift the Wolfpack. West Morris pulled away with a 13-5 second-half effort. Tara Urban fired a hat trick and Amanda Beal and Katie Cikovski scored two goals each for Roxbury (11-5). West Morris is 7-10.

Villa Walsh 19, Waldwick 4

Candace Pallitto had four goals and three assists and Jess Racanelli scored three times in the North I contest. The Vikings improve to 14-3.

Kinnelon 17, MKA 7

Nicole Belanger had five goals and two assists and Heidi Annaheim had three goals and three assists in Group I action. Ashley Bobinski and Haley Femblaux each scored twice. Kinnelon led 14-0 at the half.

Madison 9, Holy Angels 8

Molly Fishter had three goals and Brynn Taylor had three goals and one assist in Group II state tournament action. The Dodgers improve to 13-5.


Boys Lacrosse

Regular season

West Morris 15, Randolph 8

Jeremy Angle scored four goals and Kevin Redinger had three goals and two assists for the Wolfpack. West Morris led 8-3 at the half. Kurt Naslonski and T. J. Lindquist had two goals and one assist for the Rams.

Bridgewater-Raritan 7, Mountain Lakes 5

Christian Cuccinello had two goals and two assists and Mike Sammarro scored twice for the Lakers (10-5).

Mendham 9, Morristown 4

Will Robinson had three goals and one assist and Tim Lewis scored twice for the Minutemen (8-4). Mendham pulled away with a 7-1 run in the second half. The Colonials drop to 5-10.

Morris Knolls 14, Pope John 10

Andrew Consoles had five goals and one assist for the Golden Eagles. Jared Huston added a hat trick and Jess Kopecky had a goal and three assists for Morris Knolls (10-7).

Lakeland 11, Morris Hills 8

Tom Cangelosi scored four times for the Scarlet Knights (8-10).
