Sammaro lifts Mountain Lakes; Kinnelon edges Madison in MCT


Mike Sammaro’s goal with four seconds left lifted defending champion Mountain Lakes to a 6-5 victory over Mendham in Morris County Tournament quarterfinal round play on Thursday.

Second-seeded Mountain Lakes rallied from a 5-3 deficit to earn the triumph. Christian Cuccinello had three goals and one assist and Sammaro scored twice. Jared Bernstein stopped 11 shots for the Lakers (10-3). Mountain Lakes faces third-seeded Chatham in Saturday’s noon semifinal contest.

Will Robinson had two goals and one assist, Chandler Avallone had a goal and an assist and Scott Smullen had nine ground balls for the seventh-seeded Minutemen (6-9).

Chatham 15, Mount Olive 4

Trip Connor won 21 of 23 faceoffs to give the Cougars and insurmountable advantage. Thomas Guida scored five of his six goals in the first half. Sam Carson and Chet McLaughlin each had two goals and one assist for the third-seeded Cougars (13-3). Chatham took control early and led 11-2 at the half. Alec Oriolo had a goal and an assist for the sixth-seeded Marauders (12-2).

Kinnelon 9, Madison 8

The fifth-seeded Colts withstood a late rally to topple the fourth-seeded Dodgers in Madison. Brian Gnad’s goal with 10:31 left in regulation gave Kinnelon a 9-5 edge. Madison staged a 3-goal, 4-minute rally with scores by Mark Langan, Christian Scarpello and Collin Scarpello (at 6:21 to make it 9-8. Neither team scored after that but both had opportunities. Kinnelon faces Delbarton in the second game of the semifinal doubleheader in Madison on Saturday.

Robert Lewis scored two goals and Matt Morreale and Joe Neggia each had a goal and two assists for the Colts (9-5). Vince Sapio fired a hat trick, Christian Scarpello had two goals and two assists and Collin Scarpello had two goals and one assist for the Dodgers (10-6).

Delbarton 15, West Morris 7

Tommy Fowler had four goals and one assist and Grant VanFossen had three goals and five assists as the top-seeded Green Wave continue to dominate. Delbarton led 7-2 at the half and pulled away with a seven-goal third-quarter effort. The win lifts the Green Wave to 13-0. West Morris falls to 6-9.

Regular season

Pequannock 13, Glen Rock 8

Liam Lilienthal had seven goals and one assist and Tyler Macejka had one goal and five assists to fuel the Golden Panthers (14-1).

Jefferson 7, Morris Hills 6

Peter Chrzanowski connected with 51 seconds left to give the Falcons their first win of the season. Dan Pasquariello and Nick O’Connor had two goals and one assist and Brad Fisher scored twice for Jefferson.

Watchung Hills 19, Morris Knolls 9

Ryan Hanright and Logan Huston scored two goals apiece for the Golden Eagles (8-7).

Randolph 16, Hanover Regional 0

Kurt Naslonski had three goals and three assists and J.P. Southren had two goals and four assists for the Rams (5-11).
