Madison, Mount Olive, Mendham boys advance in MCT

Christian Scarpello and Collin Scarpello each had three goals and one assist to lift Madison to an 11-5 triumph over Morristown in opening round action of the Morris County Tournament on Tuesday.

Alan Schmitz had a goal and an assist and goalkeeper Jack Ranney made 15 saves for the fourth-seeded Dodgers (10-5). After a close first quarter, Madison jumped ahead with a four-goal period to take a 6-3 lead at the half. Madison faces Kinnelon in the quarterfinal round. Chris Drake scored twice and Griffin Woodfin-Levine had a goal and an assist for the 13th-seeded Colonials (4-9).

West Morris 14, Pequannock 7

The Wolfpack rallied from a 4-3 halftime deficit with eight third-quarter goals. Jeremy Angle had four goals and four assists, including three goals during the pivotal third quarter. Kevin Readinger had three goals, Matt Carfaro had two goals and one assist and Griff Mahoney had two goals for eighth-seeded West Morris (6-8). The Wolfpack outshot the Golden Panthers 42-28. Chris Coppola and Bryan Peters scored two goals apiece and Liam Lilienthal had a goal and two assists for the ninth-seeded and previously unbeaten Pequannock (13-1).

Mountain Lakes 11, Morris Hills 3

The second-seeded Lakers took control early and led 10-1 at the half. Zander Kotsen had two goals and two assists, Christian Cuccinello had two goals and one assist and David Thompson and Spencer Herman had two goals apiece for Mountain Lakes (9-3). Zack Berkowitz had two goals and one assist and Anthony D’Amico had a pair of assists for the 15th-seeded Scarlet Knights (8-7). Mountain Lakes hosts Mendham in the next round.

Mendham 6, Morristown-Beard 4

Tim Lewis and Andrew Robshaw scored two goals apiece and sophomore attackman Chandler Avallone collected four assists for the seventh-seeded Minutemen (6-8). Mendham led 5-2 at the half. Robshaw, a freshman, scored the Minutemen’s final two goals to preserve the victory. Mendham goalie Jon Berg made four saves and Scott Smullen had eight ground balls. Andrew Callahan and Ted Hatfield each had a goal and an assist and sophomore goalie Matt Sefcik made nine saves for the 10th-seeded Crimson (8-7).

Mount Olive 8, Montville 4

The Marauders rallied from a 4-3 halftime deficit with five third-quarter goals. Chris Sanchez and Alec Oriolo each had two goals and one assist and Anthony Verrone had a pair of goals for sixth-seeded Mount Olive (12-1). Jake Haimson scored twice and Tyler Chin had a goal and two assists for the 11th-seeded Mustangs (6-7). Third-seeded Chatham will host Mount Olive in the quarterfinal round.

Delbarton 19, Roxbury 0

Kevin Lewis had three goals and four assists, Tommy Fowler had three goals and two assists and Grant VanFossen had three goals and two assists for the Green Wave. Delbarton led 12-0 after the first quarter. Top-seeded Green Wave (12-0) faces West Morris in the quarterfinals. No. 17 seed Roxbury is 7-7.
