Lacrosse for a good cause

LONG VALLEY– The West Morris Central Girls Lax Teams in conjunction with HEADstrong Foundation are hosting a Battle of the Sexes Lacrosse Tournament to benefit the HEADstrong Foundation, whose mission is to help families battling cancer.

The HEADstrong  Foundation enlists the lacrosse community to help fulfill the final wishes of Nick “Head” Colleluori, a Hofstra lacrosse player, who lost his battle with cancer in 2006 at the age of 21.

Both the West Morris Girls and Boys lacrosse teams have supported the HEADstrong Foundation by purchasing HEADstrong laces at the beginning of the lacrosse season and have proudly worn them to their games.

West Morris lacrosse players will Lace Up Against Cancer, again, on Friday, June 10, 3:30pm to 6:30pm. The games will consist of a BOYS VS GIRLS format at the freshmen, JV and Varsity levels. Several teams from the Long Valley Recreation Leagues are invited to join us that afternoon. Co –Ed games will be played with recreation heads with no checking.  That night, as a special guest, Blaine Harrison, Head Coach of the Philadelphia Wings, will kick off the evening and present medals to the winning teams and joining all players in their “Group Green” photo.

The games will be played in the West Morris Central High School football stadium. Players should wear their HEADstrong laces that day. The Long Valley Community can help support, too, by purchasing the laces and joining the players after the games for a large group photo that will be sent to the HEADstrong Foundation for their website.

Admission for the day will be $2 for students and $5 for adults.  HEADstrong shoelaces and merchandise will be available at the event. Food and drinks will be sold throughout the afternoon. This will be a fun afternoon for kids, parents, students and the greater Long Valley Community and all proceeds from the day will benefit the HEADstrong Foundation.
