Mendham, Chatham earn top seeds in state tournament

The Tourney brackets are up for the NJSIAA girls lacrosse state tournament. Here’s who the Morris County teams are facing and when they have to play.

North I

 There is one preliminary game that must be played by Saturday, May 14. Opening round games are scheduled for Monday May 16, the quarterfinals are scheduled for Thursday, May 19 and semifinals are on Tuesday, May 24. The sectional finals are scheduled for Thursday, May 26, all at the site of the higher seeded team.

The only prelim for North 1 is No. 17 Academy of St. Elizabeth at No. 16 New Providence with the winner having the honor of facing top seed Glen Ridge. The winner of No. 9 Villa Walsh at No. 8 Kinnelon will play that winner. No. 12 Montclair-Kimberley will play at No. 5 Oak Knoll and No. 13 Morristown Beard will play at No. 4 Bernards.

No. 3 Mountain Lakes hosts No. 14 Verona on the lower half of the bracket. The winner plays the winner of No. 11 Madison at No. 6 Caldwell. The winner of No. 10 Glen Rock at No. 7 DePaul faces the winner of No. 15 Pequannock at No. 2 Kent Place.

North II

There are only three Morris County teams in North II. They play their games on May 17, May 20, May 24 and May 26.

Chatham is the No. 1 seed and it will face No. 16 Morris Hills in the opening round. The winner will play the winner of No. 9 Governor Livingston at No. 8 Jefferson. Other top teams in the Group include: No. 2 Summit, No. 3 West Essex and No. 4 Mahwah.

North III

Morris County Tournament champion Mendham earned the top seed in Group III which has its games on May 16, May 19, May 24 and May 26.

Mendham will play the winner of No. 17 Park Regional at No. 16 Fair Lawn. That prelim game must be played by Saturday. No. 9 Wayne Hills plays at No. 8 Sparta. No. 12 Roxbury travels to face No. 5 Millburn and No. 13 Mount Olive battles No. 4 West Windsor Plainsboro North.

In the bottom bracket No. 14 Scotch Plains-Fanwood battles No. 3 West Morris. No. 11 Morristown travels to No. 6 Princeton, No. 10 Montville visits No. 7 Northern Highlands and No. 15 Northern Valley-Old Tappen hikes up to No. 2 Vernon.

North IV

There is only one MorrisCountyteam in Group IV which plays its games on May 17, May 20, May 24 and May 26. It is Morris Knolls. The fifth seeded Golden Eagles will host North Hunterdon. That winner advances to play Columbia at West Windsor-Plainsboro-South. It is expected that the winners will eventually have to get by top-seeded Ridgewood. The bottom bracket has No. 2 South Brunswick and No. 3 Hillsborough among its top teams.
